AI Chip Rally Broadens Beyond Nvidia as Micron and AMD Lead Sector Surge

Investors are rotating capital into AMD, Intel, and Micron as the AI rally expands beyond Nvidia, driven by record memory chip demand and robust infrastructure spending.

The semiconductor market is witnessing a significant rotation as investors expand their focus beyond Nvidia toward the broader AI infrastructure ecosystem. Micron Technology led the charge this week with a staggering 38% surge, marking its best weekly performance since 2008, driven by a global shortage of high-bandwidth memory chips essential for AI processing. Similarly, Intel and AMD have seen double-digit gains as Wall Street bets on the CPU makers and memory providers that power the next stage of generative AI development.

Analysts suggest this \"changing of the guard\" reflects a market realization that Nvidia's GPUs cannot operate in a vacuum. While Nvidia shares have remained relatively flat since late April, its peers are catching up as earnings reports highlight a widening demand for data center components. AMD recently reported a jump in profit and revenue, with CEO Lisa Su projecting second-quarter revenue of $11.2 billion fueled by accelerating AI infrastructure needs.

CNBC’s Jim Cramer noted that it is \"not too late\" to own these foundational winners, characterizing the current earnings season as an \"explosion of profits\" for companies tied to data centers. The rally has extended to international players as well; Germany’s Infineon lifted its guidance on AI strength, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) reported a 17.5% increase in sales to roughly $13.1 billion. Despite some concerns regarding cooling growth rates at TSMC, the broader sentiment remains bullish on the physical 'picks and shovels' of the AI era.
