Apple Overtakes Nvidia to Reclaim Title of World's Most Valuable Company

Apple has overtaken Nvidia to reclaim the spot of world's most valuable company as investor concerns grow over the high cost of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

In a historic shift for equity markets, Apple regained its title as the world's most valuable company on Monday, surpassing Nvidia for the first time since April 2025. The iPhone maker's ascent comes as shares of Nvidia fell 5%, dragging its market capitalization down to $4.77 trillion. Investors appear to be rotating out of pure-play AI hardware after Nvidia's rapid climb, which saw it briefly touch a $5 trillion valuation in October.

While Nvidia has dominated the market for the last two years, the momentum has shifted toward companies like Apple that are integrating AI into consumer hardware. Apple’s stock has climbed 24% in 2026, significantly outperforming Nvidia’s 4% gain. This reversal is largely attributed to investor anxiety over the immense capital expenditures required to sustain the AI buildout, leading some to seek safety in Apple's diversified ecosystem.

Apple is scheduled to report its fiscal third-quarter earnings this Thursday. Wall Street will be looking for clarity on the financial impact of a global memory chip shortage that prompted Apple to raise prices for MacBooks and iPads earlier this year. The shortage highlights a growing bottleneck as the industry's demand for high-performance memory competes with traditional consumer electronics.

The broader semiconductor sector also faces pressure as investors rotate from graphics processing units (GPUs) toward data center infrastructure and memory specialists. This shift has benefited firms like Micron Technology and SK Hynix, which have become critical partners in the AI supply chain even as the top-tier chipmakers like Nvidia and AMD face renewed volatility.
