Baidu Reports AI Revenue Growth as Global AI Startup Funding Accelerates

Baidu reports healthy AI growth amid a search advertising slump, while startups in China and Europe secure billions in fresh funding and IPO filings.

Baidu, China’s leading search provider, has indicated that its pivot toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing is beginning to drive healthy revenue growth. While the company's legacy internet search and advertising businesses remain under pressure due to a softening Chinese economy, AI-related revenue is picking up the slack. Executives noted that the transition is translating into earnings slowly but steadily, with plans to spin off and list specific business units to unlock further value for shareholders.

In the private sector, Chinese AI startup StepFun is reportedly preparing to file for an initial public offering in Hong Kong. Based in Shanghai, StepFun would be the latest in a string of large language model developers seeking to tap the public markets this year. The move signals a robust appetite for AI investment in the region, even as geopolitical tensions create a complex regulatory environment for technology listings.

European AI development is also seeing significant momentum. Factorial, a Spanish business-software group, recently closed a $150 million funding round that valued the company at $2.5 billion. The fresh capital will be used to expand its AI-integrated HR and operations software across the continent. Similarly, the startup PointFive received a $60 million investment led by Accel to help enterprises rein in escalating cloud computing costs associated with large-scale AI deployment.
