    Montréal signs top prospect Ivan Demidov to a three-year deal, while the Astros option Spencer Arrighetti to the minors.

    The Montréal Canadiens have made a significant splash in the NHL market by signing 2024 first-round pick Ivan Demidov to a three-year entry-level contract. Demidov, selected fifth overall, was recently released from his KHL contract in Russia, clearing the way for his transition to the North American league. The young forward is highly regarded for his scoring prowess, having recorded 19 goals and 49 points in his previous season.

    In other professional sports news, the Houston Astros have decided to option pitching prospect Spencer Arrighetti to Triple-A to start the season.
