Cannonball Carry-On: Traveler's Luggage Gets Explosive Surprise

A routine X-ray screening at a Southern airport recently turned up some rather weighty and unexpected items: multiple Civil War-era cannonballs. The historical projectiles were discovered within a passenger's suitcase during a standard security check, raising a few eyebrows and certainly slowing down the baggage carousel.

The large, opaque objects initially puzzled agents, but upon closer inspection, their true nature became clear. While undoubtedly fascinating historical artifacts, carrying unexploded ordnance, even very old ordnance, is generally frowned upon, and for good reason. Safety protocols were quickly engaged to handle the situation appropriately.

Authorities were called to assess the situation and safely remove the cannonballs. No injuries were reported, and the passenger likely had quite a story to tell, perhaps not the kind they'd anticipated. It seems some souvenirs are best left to museums, or at the very least, not packed for air travel.
