Global Soccer Revolt: UEFA Boycotts FIFA Over World Cup Stake Sale Plan

Global soccer is facing an unprecedented institutional crisis as UEFA, the governing body for European football, announced a full boycott of all FIFA competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups. The drastic move comes in response to FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s controversial proposal to sell equity stakes in the World Cup to private investors, a plan that has unified nearly 100 national associations against the global body.

The opposition spans multiple continents, with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Concacaf also publicly rejecting the equity proposal.
