Israel Seeks Global Chip Giants for AI Hub; Moonshot AI Targets $50B Value

Israel is lobbying TSMC, Samsung, and Intel for a 2nm chip fab while China's Moonshot AI seeks a $50 billion valuation.

Israel is making a strategic push to cement its position in the global artificial intelligence landscape by lobbying the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers. Erez Askal, Israel's AI czar, is reportedly in discussions with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), Samsung Electronics Co., and Intel Corp. to establish a domestic semiconductor manufacturing hub. The goal is to produce state-of-the-art chips using 2-nanometer processes or smaller, ensuring the nation has the localized infrastructure necessary for the next generation of computing.

The initiative comes as global powers race to secure chip supplies amid geopolitical uncertainties. By attracting giants like TSMC and Samsung, Israel aims to not only build a manufacturing presence but also to integrate more deeply into the global AI supply chain. Localized fabrication would provide a critical buffer against supply chain disruptions while fostering a domestic ecosystem of high-bandwidth memory and advanced chipmaking.

Parallel to these efforts, investors are tracking significant moves in the broader AI sector. China’s Moonshot AI is reportedly seeking pre-IPO funding at a $50 billion valuation as it develops its Kimi K3 model. Experts suggest that Moonshot’s latest advancements may focus heavily on memory efficiency, a move that would continue to drive demand for high-bandwidth memory from providers like SK Hynix and specialized components from Nvidia. These developments highlight a shift where hardware infrastructure—from data centers to advanced memory—is becoming as essential as the AI models themselves.
