Jadeveon Clowney Reunites with Houston Texans on One-Year Free Agent Deal

Jadeveon Clowney returns to the Houston Texans on a one-year deal to join a pass rush featuring Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.

Veteran edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney is returning to the Houston Texans on a one-year deal worth up to $8 million, including a $5.5 million base. The move marks a homecoming for Clowney, who was the No. 1 overall pick by the Texans in 2014 and earned three Pro Bowl selections with the franchise before being traded in 2019. Now 33, Clowney remains a productive pass rusher, coming off an 8.5-sack season with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Texans' addition of Clowney is designed to bolster an already elite pass rush led by Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter. In 2025, Clowney maintained a 19.1 percent pressure rate, ranking him among the most efficient edge defenders in the league with at least 200 snaps. His veteran presence and run-stopping ability are expected to provide the Texans with much-needed depth as they compete for the AFC South title.

Clowney had reportedly visited the Cleveland Browns earlier in the week but ultimately chose to reunite with the team where his career began. Since leaving Houston, he has played for six different teams over seven seasons. The Texans are betting that Clowney still has significant 'juice' left to contribute to a defense that was a rare bright spot in Houston's recent rebuilding effort.
