LeBron James Joins 76ers for 24th Season as Kawhi Leonard Returns to Toronto

LeBron James Joins 76ers for 24th Season as Kawhi Leonard Returns to Toronto

LeBron James joins the 76ers for a record 24th season, while Kawhi Leonard returns to Toronto in a flurry of major NBA offseason trades.

LeBron James has reached a decision on his future, reportedly signing with the Philadelphia 76ers for what will be a record-breaking 24th NBA season. The move ends weeks of speculation that saw James linked to the Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, and his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 76ers land the superstar as he continues to defy age, while the Cavaliers are expected to pivot to Jonathan Kuminga and renew efforts to re-sign James Harden.

The NBA landscape has been further altered by several blockbuster moves. In a surprising reunion, the LA Clippers have traded Kawhi Leonard back to the Toronto Raptors, the team he led to an NBA title in 2019. Leonard’s seven-season stint in Los Angeles ends as the Clippers look to avoid the 'second apron' luxury tax penalties. The deal comes after Leonard was also briefly linked to trade discussions involving the Dallas Mavericks.

Elsewhere, the Milwaukee Bucks have acquired Cole Anthony from the Orlando Magic, a move General Manager Jon Horst described as necessary for the team's evolution. In another significant trade, the Los Angeles Lakers have sent Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jaden Hardy and multiple draft picks. Meanwhile, the league is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Vince Carter’s iconic 'dunk of death' from the 2000 Olympics, even as the new generation, led by a slimmed-down Zion Williamson, prepares for the upcoming training camps.
