Bajes Kwartier Redefines Amsterdam's Urban Landscape with Sustainable Masterplan

The revitalized Bajes Kwartier in Amsterdam is set to become a benchmark for sustainable urban living in the Netherlands. The masterplan, designed by OMA, transforms the city's 7.5-hectare former prison site into a vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhood consisting of 135,000 square metres of space.

The project shifts the focus from the site's previous role as a gated, closed facility to an open and inclusive community. By integrating diverse housing, public amenities, and green spaces, the development aims to seamlessly fold the formerly isolated plot back into the wider urban fabric of Amsterdam.
