St. Louis Region Strengthens Business Development and Economic Growth

The St. Louis region continues to leverage its strengths in aerospace, finance, and manufacturing to attract and retain businesses, supported by active economic development partnerships.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development and local organizations have been active in their efforts to attract and retain businesses in the St. Louis region. With thousands of companies calling the area home—including 17 Fortune 1000 firms—the region continues to promote its pro-business climate. Recent ribbon-cutting events and industrial park developments have highlighted the state’s commitment to driving economic growth and creating job opportunities for residents.

St. Louis has maintained a reputation as a hub for various industries, including aerospace, agtech, and financial services. The Missouri Partnership, along with local councils, provides a range of incentives and customized resources to help businesses navigate moves or expansions. The region's strategic position and deep expertise in sectors like advanced manufacturing and defense are frequently cited as core strengths that make it an attractive destination for global companies.

Economic development agencies, such as the St. Louis Development Corporation, emphasize that retaining existing businesses is just as critical as attracting new ones. By engaging with companies through Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) teams, the city seeks to identify and mitigate local challenges, ensuring a stable and growing economy. Whether it is through land bank legislation, financial services leadership, or specialized industrial support, the coordinated efforts of public and private partners aim to foster a sustainable and thriving business environment for the entire region.
