Mexico Growth Beats Forecasts as German Economy Slumps

Mexico's economy surged at its fastest monthly pace in five years, while German business activity contracted to an 18-month low in June.

The Mexican economy defied expectations in April, posting its sharpest monthly increase in five years. On an annual basis, the economy expanded by 2.3%, comfortably beating analyst forecasts of 1.8%. The robust performance highlights Mexico's growing role as a regional manufacturing powerhouse, though economists caution that global headwinds and a slowdown in the U.S.—its primary trading partner—could pose risks in the coming quarters.

In contrast, the outlook for Europe remains grim. German business activity hit an 18-month low in June, according to PMI data, as a downturn in the services sector deepened. The contraction in the Eurozone's largest economy suggests that high energy costs and weak global demand continue to weigh on industrial output. Furthermore, internalWSJ reports suggest that Europeans are keeping a third of their assets in low-interest bank accounts, a trend driven by spending anxiety that is further stifling domestic growth and investment across the continent.
