Middle East Conflict Intensifies as Iran Hits U.S. Bases in Kuwait and Jordan

In Washington, the political divide over the conflict deepened as Senate Republicans successfully blocked a resolution aimed at halting the executive branch's military actions against Iran. The maritime situation in the Red Sea continues to deteriorate following the Houthi-declared blockade on Saudi Arabia. In response, a 14-nation joint statement was issued supporting a Saudi-led multinational maritime defense coalition. Signatories including Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan have pledged to safeguard regional shipping channels. The urgency of the coalition was highlighted by a drone attack on a gas vessel in Egypt’s Damietta Port, though Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly assured the public that the country has sufficient energy alternatives.

Diplomatic efforts appear to be stalling as Iran officially rejected a proposal brokered by Oman for joint oversight of the Strait of Hormuz. The rejection complicates international efforts to de-escalate the 'tanker war' that has forced major exporters like Riyadh to reroute their oil shipments away from the world's most vital energy chokepoint.
