MLB Proposes Major Draft Overhaul in Continued Labor Negotiations

Major League Baseball has introduced a sweeping proposal to overhaul the draft system as part of ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations. The plan focuses on redirecting the pipeline toward college-aged players by making college athletes eligible for the draft one year earlier than current rules allow. MLB officials argue the move will provide players with more financial leverage and professional development opportunities at an earlier age.

The proposal also includes significant changes to the international signing period and high school scouting. By incentivizing the college route, MLB aims to professionalize the development path and reduce the risks associated with signing younger, unproven high school prospects.
