NBA Offseason: LeBron James Signs with 76ers; Kawhi Leonard Returns to Toronto

LeBron James joins the 76ers for a 24th season as the Clippers trade Kawhi Leonard back to the Raptors in a wild NBA offseason.

The NBA landscape continues to shift this offseason as LeBron James officially signs with the Philadelphia 76ers, entering a record-breaking 24th professional season. The move ends weeks of speculation regarding the future of the league's all-time leading scorer. James, who considered several suitors including the Cavaliers and Mavericks, reportedly chose Philadelphia for the opportunity to compete for a championship alongside Joel Embiid.

In response to losing out on the James sweepstakes, the Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly pivoting toward a trade for Jonathan Kuminga. The Cavs are in desperate need of high-end talent after several free-agent departures and are also working to re-sign veteran guard James Harden. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks have justified their blockbuster trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami, with the front office stating the deal provided the 'best path' for the franchise's long-term restructuring.

The trade market remains volatile across the league. The LA Clippers have sent shockwaves through the sport by trading Kawhi Leonard back to the Toronto Raptors, the team he led to a title in 2019. In the Western Conference, the Denver Nuggets have secured their future by reaching an agreement on a major contract extension with Nikola Jokić, though the deal will not be officially signed until next summer. As training camps approach, the balance of power in both conferences has been significantly recalibrated.
