SK Hynix and Samsung sign a $950 billion AI partnership with US tech giants following a record-breaking $26.5 billion Nasdaq debut.
South Korean semiconductor giants SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics have signed a landmark $950 billion partnership with U.S. Big Tech firms, aimed at accelerating the development of next-generation artificial intelligence hardware. The deal was announced following a high-level summit hosted by South Korean President Lee, who called for a 'new era of AI' through global cooperation. This record-breaking commitment signals a deepening of the supply chain between Seoul and Silicon Valley as competition with China intensifies.
The partnership follows a successful U.S. listing for SK Hynix, which raised $26.5 billion on the Nasdaq in one of the largest foreign IPOs in recent history. The company’s shares surged as much as 17% in their debut, reflecting investor confidence in their ability to supply the high-bandwidth memory chips essential for AI processing. Additionally, TSMC recently pledged another $100 billion to expand its production facilities in the United States, bringing its total U.S. commitment to $265 billion.
As the corporate race heats up, the U.S. and China are preparing to hold formal high-level talks on AI ethics and security this September. While the U.S. continues to lobby allies to restrict advanced chip exports to China, these talks aim to establish some guardrails for the technology. However, tensions remain high, with the White House recently accusing China’s 'Moonshot AI' of stealing proprietary models from American firm Anthropic. Moonshot AI has denied the claims, asserting that its new Kimi K3 model was developed independently to rival top-tier American AI systems.
