President Donald Trump has finalized a landmark nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, fundamentally shifting decades of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. The deal, described as a bold move to help the Kingdom develop civilian nuclear energy, notably drops longstanding U.S. demands that Riyadh first normalize relations with Israel. President Trump stated that while he still expects the Saudis to eventually join the Abraham Accords, the nuclear pact is no longer strictly contingent upon it.

The agreement is designed to help Saudi Arabia diversify its energy sector and meet surging domestic electricity demands. Saudi authorities have responded with major air strikes across Yemen, raising fears that the U.S.-Saudi nuclear partnership is being signed against the backdrop of a widening regional war.

Israel, which is widely believed to possess its own nuclear deterrent, has joined U.S. efforts to contain Tehran's nuclear ambitions. By providing Saudi Arabia with a U.S.-backed nuclear framework, the Trump administration aims to keep Riyadh within the American sphere of influence as global energy markets continue to face volatility from the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict.
