TSMC Commits $100B Expansion to U.S. as AI Rivalry Intensifies

TSMC boosts its U.S. investment to $265 billion as China’s Moonshot AI launches a new model to challenge American dominance.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) has dramatically increased its commitment to American manufacturing, pledging an additional $100 billion to expand its production facilities in the United States. This move brings the chip giant’s total U.S. investment to a staggering $265 billion. CEO C.C. Wei and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang appeared together to celebrate the announcement, which is expected to create thousands of high-paying tech jobs and secure domestic supply chains for critical AI components.

Meanwhile, the race for artificial intelligence supremacy is heating up in Asia. China’s Moonshot AI has unveiled its latest model, Kimi K3, claiming it can directly rival the performance of U.S.-based OpenAI and Anthropic. The launch signals China's determination to maintain technological parity despite ongoing trade restrictions and limited access to certain high-end hardware.

These developments come as a new generation of retail investors shifts its focus toward the technology sector. A recent report highlights '20-somethings' who are betting heavily on tech stocks, despite the volatility introduced by international trade wars and shifting energy costs. The influx of young capital is providing a liquidity cushion for firms like Nvidia and TSMC even as geopolitical tensions remain a primary risk factor for the sector.
