U.S. Commemorates 25th Anniversary of September 11 Attacks

Ceremonies across the United States honored the victims and survivors of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, marking a quarter-century since the events.
The United States today observed the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with remembrance events held in New York City, Arlington, Virginia, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
In New York, families of victims gathered at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum for a solemn ceremony, including the traditional reading of the names of those who perished at the World Trade Center. Moments of silence were observed to mark the times each of the hijacked planes struck its target and when the towers collapsed.
At the Pentagon, located in Arlington, Virginia, officials and military personnel paid tribute to the 184 lives lost when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building. A separate ceremony took place in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, commemorating the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93, who resisted hijackers, leading to the plane's crash in a field rather than reaching its intended target.
These annual observances continue to serve as a national moment of remembrance for the nearly 3,000 victims killed in the coordinated attacks and to honor the first responders.
